Pre-Order beta and now retail, frankly i love it.
Haven't played online that much yet with retail, want to get to know all the sides better in larger solo games first. But sofar i'm blown away by the polish the retail game has. (and the last Beta was already pretty amazing, this is several steps beyond that)
If you're unsure if you want to buy the game, a Demo is planned for march, so you can safely try it out for free then.

Sorry should of gave more reasons.
I have Civ 3 or 4 on my pc forget which but its the last 1 that was out.. I am a great fan of homeworld 2 & eve well - .....shrug
Its a good game at 1st but gets very boring fast & takes so long to start up again.
am more a fan of C&C's & homeworld as you could mass bigger armys in shorter amount of time.
in a nut shell - if you have hours to kill to make up a base of ships this is for you.
Well essentially Sins is a real-time interpretation of a 4X game, and those are always slow to start, you need to do a little empire building first to get the war machine rolling. That's what is at the core of those type of games.
To each his own ofcourse, but i may add that IronClad have announced to add a considerably faster game mode in the next patch. (which according to them, should be out this week) That way the game should be more playable if you are short on time. Personally i prefer the normal game speed, since i like a reasonably slow pace in my games.

MOO man MOO
Avery, they plan on releasing a Demo for SSE in March, you might want to give it a whirl then unless you feel like Pirating it. Which is surprisingly easy, since StarDock doesn't believe in copy protection. (their patches and multiplayer all require a validated serial, works well enough)
I pre-ordered on blind faith since it is StarDock doing the publishing and i haven't regretted the decision for a millisecond.

Originally by: ry ry i found homeworld a really fiddly to control (yeah yeah i know, i'm a cack handed mong) so i'm stealing a copy off TPB atm by way of a demo.
it's an indy developer tho, so i'll definitely buy a copy, providing if i can get my head around it...
Its surprisingly easy to control, if it seems to much to micro everything just turn over some tasks to the AI (such as placing structures in orbit, although you order which are placed) and fleet combat can be pretty heavily automated too if you want. All abilities have an "auto-cast" feature which works surprisingly well. Although i recommend keeping an eye on capships. Their AI is getting a small tweak with the next patch, they're rather agressive towards flak-frigates at the moment.

According to the CEO of Stardock no major publishers were willing to take the game on, fearing there wouldn't be a market for a space game. But they're now negotiating with a smaller one hoping for a store release in a few months.
Unfortunately european gamers will need to wait before buying it in stores.
However, you can order the game for digital download or digital download + DVD from the SSE homepage or Stardocks own online store. With the rather weak dollar digital only is just over 30 euros and with delivery of the DVD aswell you're looking at about the cost of a normal game in most european countries, so about 50 euros. Money well spent i'd say. (Have Digital Download only Collectors Edition myself)

Nope...I was hunting around for something like that but somehow managed to miss it. I'll give it another go.
Thanks.
Also Imperator Jora'h, you can buy levels for your capships in a pinch, its very expensive, but having a capship at level 3 (which is the max i believe for buying) right off the bat helps when you're outnumbered. The button for that is located in the ability upgrade screen of each capship. I know the AI tends to use it, so his Capships will appear to be at higher level.
Also the first patch (1.02) hit Stardock Central last night, i suggest logging on and downloading it, it makes quite a few tweaks to the game. SSE v1.02 Patch Notes

Lets just say that according to Ironclad the minimum requirements are a bit pessimistic. At minimum it should infact perform pretty well.
Lowest system reported was someone who got it going on his old laptop P3 with an integrated intel vid-card. Not exactly the most sophisticated of GPUs, but on lowest it ran pretty well. He didn't expect it too, but it worked. His other comp broke down earlier and he needed his fix. Only thing is that operating systems below Windows XP are not supported, win2k refuses to cooperate for instance. Although people have got it to run under Wine for linux.

Your spanish distributors aren't the only lazy incompetent bastards At the moment Stardock doesn't have a European distributor. None of them were willing to take the game on, because there apparently "was no market for a space game" over here. At the moment SD is rather busy proving them wrong and racking in cash through their digital downloads, so maybe some european distributors want a piece of the pie now.

Honestly, I have no idea why they'd even WANT a distributor. What's more likely, break your DVD, or be unable to get Internet access ? I mean, EVE has no distributor nowadays, the client is larger than that of SoaSE (well, at least the premium, the classic is about on par), and it works just fine.
Heck, they don't even HAVE any copy-protection schemes... all you actually pay for (and get in form of a key) is access to their matchmaking service and a permanent place to download a backup copy of the game from (I was about to say "client", heh) in case you need it.
For all intents and purposes, this game is SHAREWARE If you don't want to give them any money, there's little to stop you from doing so. But honestly, they DO deserve the cash, for so many reasons I can't begin to completely describe, one of them being the fact they don't have a copy-protection, and a whole lot of reasons related to just how awesome this game is.
Very true Akita, couldn't have said it better myself.
